Final Calhoun-Harriet Master Plan CAC Meeting Moved to Jones-Harrison Residence

The final meeting of the Calhoun-Harriet Master Plan Community Advisory Committee (CAC) will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 6-8:30 pm at the Jones-Harrison Residence, 3700 Cedar Lake Ave. The meeting was originally scheduled at Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Headquarters, but concerns over traffic delays due to road construction and rush hour congestion prompted a shift to the Jones-Harrison residence

.The meeting agenda focuses on prioritizing projects to help allocate approximately $3 million in improvements that will begin in 2017. The appointed Calhoun-Harriet CAC has been meeting monthly since July 2015.

After the May 10 CAC meeting, MPRB staff will compose the draft Calhoun-Harriet Master Plan over the next few months and submit it to the Board of Commissioners later this summer. A 45-day comment period will open once the Board receives the draft Master Plan. During that time the public can submit written comments regarding the Master Plan and its recommendations. A public hearing is anticipated in early fall 2016.

South Minneapolis parks discussion continues with meeting on May 5

 The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) hosts the 11th Community Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting for the South Service Area Master Plan (SSAMP) on Thursday, May 5, 6-8 pm in the Central Gym community room, 3400 4th Ave. S. This project will create a comprehensive, cohesive set of new park plans for all neighborhood parks south of downtown and east of I-35W.

The meeting and open house will facilitate in-depth discussions with a focus on the four remaining parks needing additional community input: Currie, Diamond Lake, Powderhorn and Todd.  Additional project topics will be raised if time allows.

The concepts to be discussed are available on the project page  Community members may also fill out an on-line survey to provide input on the concepts.

Remaining meetings center on equity, Lake Harriet focus areas and 2017 project priorities


Another Community Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting for the Calhoun-Harriet Master Plan has been scheduled May 10, 6-8:30 pm at Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) headquarters, 2117 West River Road. The previously scheduled April 21 meeting will continue as planned, also 6-8:30 pm at MPRB headquarters. All CAC meetings are open to the public and the MPRB encourages interested park users to attend!

The Calhoun-Harriet CAC has been meeting since July 2015 to develop a master plan that will create a 25-year vision for Lake Calhoun, Lake Harriet and the surrounding parkland. Recommendations address improved access and circulation, natural resources, cultural resources and equity. The design team has developed plans for nine focus areas around the two lakes which balance recreational demands with ecological improvements.

The two final meetings will focus on remaining equity recommendations and three focus areas around Lake Harriet. The CAC will also discuss its project priorities for approximately $3 million in improvements slated for construction in 2017.

Calhoun-Harriet Community Advisory Committee Meeting Scheduled March 24

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is hosting Community Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting #9, Thurs., Mar. 24, 6-8:30 pm,  2117 W River Road to gather input on the Calhoun Harriet Master Plan and Improvements, specifically Focus Areas 4-9.

Discussion of additional recommendations related to equity, including the name change/restoration from Lake Calhoun to Bde Maka Ska will occur at exactly 8 pm (time specific).

The Calhoun-Harriet Master Plan Improvements project  has the focus to preserve the historic spatial organization and land use patterns around the lakes, which includes and is not limited to encircling parkways and trails, landscaped parkland, beaches, iconic views and a combination of intensively programmed areas and open, passive recreational space.

Discussion of South Minneapolis Parks Scheduled March 8

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) has scheduled Community Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting #9 related to the South Service Area Master Plan (SSAMP) on Tuesday, March 8, 6-8 pm at Stewart Recreation Center, 2700 S. 12th Ave. The general public is welcome to attend and provide input.

The meeting will feature discussions on certain parks that were identified as needing further consideration. These parks include Brackett, Central Gym, Corcoran, Diamond Lake, East Phillips, Powderhorn, Seven Oaks Oval, Solomon, Stewart and Todd. In addition, MPRB will present a revised Currie Park concept for discussion.

All park concepts are available on the SSAMP project page, along with information related to community engagement activities from summer 2015, initial concept drawings for all parks, and ongoing demographic and facilities research. Visit to view and comment on these documents. Community members may also fill out an online survey to provide input on the concepts.
