DeLaSalle Study Session Comments

During the Park Board Commissioners’ study session on the DeLaSalle reciprocal use agreement which preceded the Park Board’s regular meeting on February 1, 2006, Commissioners Tom Nordyke and Scott Vreeland both suggested that the Park Board seek an opinion by an attorney who is an expert in the area of constitutional law before voting on the DeLaSalle agreement. Because of the church/state issue under the Minnesota Constitution, their suggestions were quite appropriate; but they were deflected by staff. I believe that it is important, because Brian Rice is not an expert on consititutional law, that he and the Park Board seek the opinion of an outside, independant attorney who is not associated with the Park Board and who is an expert in the area of constitutional law BEFORE the Board votes on the reciprocal agreement on March 1.
