Heads Up For Two Park Board Meetings

CAC MEETING. The Lake Harriet CAC will meet Monday, June 1 at 7 p.m. at the Linden Hills Recreation Center, 3100 W. 43rd St. The meeting is open to the public. For more information go to http://lakeharrietcac.ning.com

PARK BOARD MEETING. The next Park Board meeting will be on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 6 p.m. at Bottineau Park, 2000 2nd St. NE. The Planning Committee will meet after the regular board meeting. On the agenda is the project with nine lives--Crown Hydro.

In spite of the fact that the Board has turned down Crown Hydro twice, General Manager Don Siggelkow, Judd Rietkerk and Superintendent Jon Gurban are all attempting to resurrect this risky project. So is Commissioner Bob Fine, chairman of the Planning Committee, who put it on the agenda of his committee. No surprise here. Commissioner Fine has always voted for Crown Hydro. He and Commissioners Jon Olson and Carol Kummer have formed an unwavering pro-Crown Hydro minority block.

Again, with government deadlines looming, Crown Hydro is pressing for an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW), hoping to keep its project alive. Fortunately, the majority of the commissioners have been firm in their opposition to this controversial project.

Unfortunately, this meeting will not be telecast. For more information, go to http://minneapolisparks.org
